Album of the week: Circle of Animals – Destroy the Light

In an attempt to improve my writing and my plan on keeping this updated i figured i’d add that fact and my addiction to checking out new music almost on a daily basis together. So here is another category to this blog, the album of the week. A new (or new to me) album that i feel like mentioning. This week it’s Circle of Animals – Destroy the Light.

Circle of Animals is a project from Sanford Parker (Minsk, Twilight, High Confessions) and Bruce Lamont (Yakuza) together with a range of very talented drummers like ao. Dave Witte (Burnt By the Sun, Municipal Waste), John Merryman (Cephalic Carnage). If any of these names sound familiar to you then i can tell you that Circle of Animals doesn’t sound anything like those bands (btw..if any of these names don’t sound familiar to you then i can also tell you that Circle of Animals doesn’t sound anything like those bands either).

Circle of Animals, to me, sounds like some sort of tribute to the old Wax Trax/Industrial scene from the late 80’s/early 90’s and reminds me more than once about old Ministry and maybe even early Nine Inch Nails and Godflesh and Swans. Mechanized and repetitive are the keywords here. And i really like it. Highlights of this album in my opinion are the opening song Invisible War, Poison the Lamb and the 12 minute closing song Destroy the Light.
