Black Mirror

This weekend while relaxing on boxing day morning i watched Black Mirror, a new three part series from Charlie Brooker.

The serie features three different stories, in different settings with different actors but they all cover the same subject which is the way we live these days (and maybe in the not too far away future) with all this technology surrounding us. Technology that is both making things easier and more comfortable but on the other hand can have a couple of side effects.

The three episodes are:

The National Anthem: A twisted parable for the Twitter age, Black Mirror taps into the collective unease about our modern world.

The first episode is a political thriller in which fictional Prime Minister Michael Callow faces a huge and shocking dilemma when Princess Susannah, a much-loved member of the Royal Family, is kidnapped.

15 Million Merrits: The second episode is a satire on entertainment shows and our insatiable thirst for distraction set in a sarcastic version of a future reality.

In this world, everyone is confined to a life of strange physical drudgery. The only way to escape this life is to enter the ‘Hot Shot’ talent show and pray you can impress the judges.

The Entire History of You: In the near future, everyone has access to a memory implant that records everything they do, see and hear – a sort of Sky Plus for the brain.

You need never forget a face again… but is that always a good thing?

Every single episode is very well acted and the scripts are, although some things might be a little far fetched, pretty solid. I personally enjoyed the 15 Million Merits episode the most, but they are all pretty good. If you get the chance, check them out.
